<全面理论>,2021,单频有声影像



"A Comprehensive Theory" is a 3D simulated video work focusing on formal experiments. It originates from the question how in several languages, the word "clue", now means a trace or piece of information that can lead to further revelation, originally referred to lines or strings. Further inspired by the pursuit of the ultimate knowledge in quantum physics and cosmology, the linear form is used to explore the duality of connection and confinement, chaos and order, and parallel and entanglement.
影像作品《全面理论》是一次形式实验。在多种语言中,“线索”一词都带有对绳索形象的指涉,并由此延申出可以进一步被揭示的信息痕迹。作品由此语言概念出发,以“线索”的形象贯穿全片,并结合来自量子力学和宇宙起源学说里的概念意向。其组成的各种结构,包括绳结与网络,暗含着关联与束缚、混乱与秩序,平行与纠缠等双重对立可能性。

In this video work, two narratives unfold: the quest in a video game level about looking for three missing friends, and a conversation between two game players with unspecified relationship around a deadly school shooting. It is an attempt to discover but at the same time blur the connections between events and thoughts. The work tries to deal with the delicate issue of gun violence and video game, a issue more specific to the American context where I was situated at the time. It centers around the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, on which the State Attorney's final report devoted an entire chapter to the shooter's gaming habits and provides detailed accounts on different aspects of the shooter’s engagement with video games.
我在2017年做过一段研究和一系列图像作品,关于数字世界与现实社会的各种纠缠事件,过程中读到一份美国检察官对某校园枪击案的结案报告,当中花了一整个章节叙述疑犯的电脑游戏爱好。影像作品《你能帮我搬这石头吗》,衍生于这个事件,并经过多次重构,先被制作成一个电脑游戏关卡,又从中提取出游戏画面和叙事元素,并与现成素材一起重组为最终的影像。场景中的物件(例如键盘、泡面、分级标签等)不仅为游戏关卡中的叙事服务,同时又指向“游戏”这一媒介本身。

High Fidelity Magic Spell presents a ritual performed by two gods trying to revive humanity, taking place in a dystopian society destroyed by the division between those who manage information and those who have no access to truth. The central object in the ritual is a materialized Chinese idiom "一五一十 (Yi Wu Yi Shi)", or literally "one five one ten." It originally refers to the act of counting by five or ten, which is extended to mean "to tell things as they are, truthfully and thoroughly." It is a very ideal state that is difficult to achieve, and in this sense it turns into a myth in itself. It is an attempt to be an ambiguous reflection on truth, history, media, and information from shifting perspectives ranging from pseudo-science to eastern philosophy.
作品《高保真神咒》在影像里构建了一个净土世界与秽土世界相互重叠的虚拟空间。在秽土世界中,基于真假信息买卖形成的信息经济,在一段时间的繁荣后崩塌并引发战争,最终使得人类社会全面毁灭。在多重时空中,两个神话角色,边进行着他们的工作——用一场仪式挽救人类,边以游离于虚实之间的方式谈论着人类世界的这场灾难。叙事中作为仪式器物的,是一个实体化的词语“一五一十”。这个外形极简、字面意思模糊、含义可望不可及的词语,在影片中成为符咒和图腾,被赋予召唤真相的魔力,由此带出一段关于信息与真实的讨论。
